Raf Simons has long been a visionary ahead of his time, establishing his namesake label in 1995 and first gaining international acclaim for his SS2002 collection, a seditious and appropriately sinister offering of urban guerrilla forms. From AW2005 onward, seasons shifted their focus from the youth code to a more developed emphasis on structures and silhouettes. Simons' recent collaborations with Sterling Ruby and the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation touch upon the diversity of media and experiences he engages with, in terms of partners as well as his own industrial and furniture design background. This eclecticism manifests in the form of warped tailoring, oversize graphic prints, and high-contrast garment treatments.
